Through Guatecaña, the sugarcane agroindustry launched its 2026 Reforestation Plan as part of its commitment with environmental sustainability and natural resources conservation. The goal is to plant 268,000 trees across seven departments, restoring more than 268 hectares.
The official launch took place at El Caimito farm in Escuintla with the symbolic planting of 500 trees. Native species grown in 38 nurseries such as mahogany, cedar, matilisguate, ceiba, and conacaste will be planted through a collaborative effort involving communities, municipalities, organizations, and government institutions.
Since 2011, this initiative has enabled the planting of more than nine million trees in strategic areas, contributing to watershed protection, groundwater recharge zones, and biological corridors.
